Calcium
Calcium is an important mineral due to its fundamental assistance in the creation of strong and healthy bones
There are about 1-2 kgs of calcium in the average adult body-over 98% of which is in the skeletal system. The average dietary calcium intake for most adults is approximately 0,6 to 0,8 g/d. Nowadays, because of the heightened awareness in the role of adequate calcium intake for the prevention of osteoporosis, many adults turn to dietary
supplements that consist of 0.8 to 1,5g/d. However, in adults, less than half of this dietary calcium is absorbed. Calcium absorption can see an increase during periods of rapid growth in children, in pregnancy and in lactation and a decrease with advancing age.
