DHEA and sexual function
Menopausal symptoms are a real problem for most women but hormone supplementation seems to be a solution.
Dehydroepiandrosterone, or more simply DHEA, is an endogenous steroid hormone that is mainly produced by the adrenal glands. DHEA is related to a broad range of biological effects in the human body. It acts on the androgens both directly and through its metabolites, which can undergo further conversion to produce testosterone and oestrogens.

A recent study from Italy revealed that DHEA may decrease menopausal symptoms and improve sexual function. The candidates, 48 menopausal women, were given low doses of DHEA. The women got relief from menopausal symptoms and their sex lives also benefited.

It is important to mention that women should not take any DHEA without the supervision of a doctor trained in hormone supplementation.
